Note: all our saddle pads are individually made in Germany. This means you are not only doing your part for the environment (fewer transport routes & better processing standards), but also get a huge selection of individually crafted small batches with constantly changing collections.

Decorating What You Love

Unlike a plain saddle blanket, there's a lot to see of the saddle pad under the saddle – which means room for favourite colours, appliqués, embroidery – or their deliberate absence. Saddle pad fashionistas often have a whole wardrobe full of quilted or felted textiles: saddle pads for everyday use in various designs and favourite colours, various fine saddle pads for "best", and often enough one or another "crazy" impulse-buy saddle pad patiently waiting for its turn...
Decorating what you love is a highly human impulse that also has a centuries-old tradition in equestrian sport. Your favourite horse should also look individual and good, and off-the-shelf saddle pads don't really fit that. :-)

Incidentally, one and the same saddle can have a completely different effect with different saddle pads – and can thus be perfectly adapted to individual taste as well as to the requirements of different riding occasions.

Compulsory in Tournament Sport

In tournament sport, the saddle pad is compulsory anyway – and subject to a number of written and unwritten rules:

In dressage, the white or cream-coloured "Sunday saddle pad" is usually mandatory; anyone wanting to make a statement usually does so with a coloured trim or embroidery.

Exceptions are made for greys: here, most judges readily follow the argument that a black saddle pad on a white horse often simply looks better. In show jumping and eventing, there is more scope for colour – but exactly what you may and should dare here is still a popular subject of lively discussion among horse lovers.

An Alternative to the Saddle Blanket in Leisure Riding

For horse owners who want to compete, there's no way around a saddle pad.

Otherwise, the saddle pad fulfils the tasks of the saddle blanket just as well, if not better: saddle blankets often turn out to be too small a purchase mistake.

The saddle pad protects the saddle leather from sweat, absorbs sweat and skin oils, and offers a little extra protection against pressure and friction. In the hot season, some riders find a saddle blanket airier and accordingly use a saddle blanket in summer and a saddle pad in winter.
