Our Sheepskin for the Saddle: Made-to-Measure Sheepskin Covers
A sheepskin saddle cover is traditionally part of the Iberosattel®. But even if you have a "normal" dressage or eventing saddle, there's a lot to be said for a sheepskin cover – especially if you spend long periods in the saddle on a regular basis. Sheepskin is then your ideal companion in many respects:
You can order our saddle sheepskin, made of wonderfully dense sheepskin, together with the saddle. But even if you already own one of our saddles, we can easily make a sheepskin cover to your specifications at any time (after all, we have the measurements of your saddle). In the Iberosattel® shop you can order made-to-measure sheepskin covers for our baroque and dressage saddles in beige, mocha, black and silver grey – on request with a leather insert in the leg area.
Of course, you can also order a sheepskin as a custom-made item for another saddle - in this case, please contact us via the contact form below before ordering.
- The natural material forms a pleasantly soft cushion (your seat bones will thank you!)
- Sheepskin prevents uncontrolled sliding around in the saddle
- Wool can absorb large amounts of moisture without feeling soaked - very useful when the weather doesn't play along during trail rides!
- There is plenty of room for air between the curly sheepskin hairs; these air pockets keep you cosily warm in the cold and cool and dry in the heat. (How does the temperature balance work? Quite simply: in winter, the air warmed by your body heat stays trapped in the sheepskin – and in summer, the air cooled by evaporating sweat.)
- Last but not least: a sheepskin cover protects the saddle in everyday riding. If you then compete without a sheepskin cover at competitions or similar occasions, you won't have to worry about stains and scratches on the saddle.

Sheepskin Under the Saddle – But Please "the Wrong Way Round"
A sheepskin under the saddle with the fleece side facing up may look good, but it wastes many of the good properties of sheepskin, so to speak, into thin air. If you're going to have sheepskin under the saddle, then with the fleece side facing the horse! Because what was said above – sheepskin as padding, anti-slip protection, effective moisture regulator and temperature balancer – makes the natural material not only excellent as a cover, but also as a pad under the saddle. However, what you don't want under your well-fitted saddle is a thick, bulky roll of fleece that impairs the saddle fit and contact with the horse - for saddle pads, the use of short-shorn sheepskin is recommended.
In the Iberosattel® shop you will also find equally high-quality quilted sheepskin saddle pads with sheepskin shorn to 20 millimetres on the inside. Available in the colours champagne, latte, mocha and black (this refers to the textile portion; the sheepskin is natural beige), these saddle pads are suitable without restriction for all saddles.
