Alongside the Spanish and Portuguese saddle tradition, the Iberian Peninsula also developed a traditional bridle with a similarly unmistakable aesthetic and functionality perfectly suited to the classical Spanish riding style. From the magnificent parade or display bridles with ornate buckles, metal fittings and leather inlays, to the simple vaquero bridle with its striking fringed forelock band made of leather strips: a Spanish bridle is always something very special.
 
By the way: the fringes on the vaquero bridle's browband are by no means just decoration! They are a proven protection against annoying insects.

Nothing sets off a horse's head as elegantly as a Spanish bridle - and it's not only die-hard fans of the Iberian riding style who think so. Compared to the type of bridling with an additional headcollar that is common here, the Spanish bridle is minimalist: the noseband is connected directly to the cheekpiece of the bridle (and there is usually no throatlatch, as found on the English snaffle bridle). This means the horse's beautiful head lines are not obscured by the typical jumble of straps and buckles that comes with a headcollar-style bridle, and putting the bridle on and taking it off is naturally quite a bit quicker as a result. Beyond that, a Spanish bridle can also be a practical solution for horses with sensitive skin, for whom every additional strap on the head is a potential problem area.
